Lionel Messi breaks Gerd Muller’s long-standing goal record with 366th strike for Barcelona

Barcelona star Lionel Messi has now scored more league goals for a single club than any other player in European history after overtaking Gerd Muller’s record on Sunday evening.

The Argentine netted Barca’s fourth and final goal in a thrilling come-from-behind victory against Real Sociedad, taking his La Liga tally for the Catalan club to 366.

That surpasses former Bayern Munich star Muller’s long-standing record, which is across the top five divisions in Europe – England, France, Italy, Spain and Germany – and has stood since 1979.
