The Football Association has begun its investigation into the clash which occurred between Maston Holgate and Roberto Firmino during Friday’s Liverpool v Everton FA Cup third round tie.
An FA statement said referee Bobby Madley was ‘made aware of an allegation’ during a match, settled by Virgil van Dijk’s debut goal, and included it in his match report.
‘We will now begin making enquiries into the matter,’ a spokesman said.
Neither player was booked after the first-half confrontation which flared up after Holgate appeared to push Firmino into Anfield’s main stand.
