Danny Welbeck hits back at Troy Deeney ahead of Arsenal vs Watford

Danny Welbeck scored twice in Arsenal 4-2 win at Brentford (Picture: Getty) Danny Welbeck has hit back at Troy Deeney after the Watford striker questioned his inclusion in Gareth Southgate’s most recent England squad.
Deeney has played a prominent role in Watford’s impressive start to the season with the Hornets currently in fourth place, two places and a point ahead of the Gunners who they meet on Saturday at the Emirates Stadium.
Southgate opted to include Welbeck for the matches against Spain and Switzerland despite the former Manchester United striker having failed to start a single Premier League game this season.
Deeney, who infamously accused Arsenal of lacking ‘cajones’ following their 2-1 defeat at Vicarage Road last season, felt his performances merited international recognition and Welbeck’s continued involvement sent out the wrong message to aspiring England players.
He said: ‘If you look at a Danny Ings, Glenn Murray, Callum Wilson, we would probably all be arguing well what do I need to be in the team?
‘Because no offence to Danny Welbeck, I’ve got a lot of time for Danny Welbeck, but he’s not playing but he’s still being picked, so is it a case that’s just the team?’
Welbeck, however, responded after scoring twice in Arsenal’s 3-1 Carabao Cup win over Brentford last night, saying: ‘It is for Gareth to decide who he picks in the squad, not for me or you to say.

The 27-year-old, who has entered the final 12 months of his current contract, has now scored four goals in all competition this season and his hopeful he is closing in on an opportunity to establish himself in Unai Emery’s first choice forward line.
He added: ‘You have got to wait for your opportunity,” he said when asked about not starting a league game so far this season.
‘A few of the lads had a bit more of a pre-season than me which made it a bit difficult, I came back a bit later than the others.
‘I got 90 minutes last week, 90 minutes today and I’m just going to build on it from there and keep improving.’

Aaron Ramsey targeted by Juventus and AC Milan as Arsenal withdraw contract offer

Aaron Ramsey could leave Arsenal on a free transfer next summer (Picture: Getty) Aaron Ramsey has emerged as a target for Juventus and AC Milan after the midfielder’s future at Arsenal took a shock twist.
The Gunners have been working on a new long-term deal for Ramsey for well over a year and Unai Emery is desperate for the Wales star to put pen to paper.
But recent reports say Arsenal have withdrawn their current offer and are bracing themselves to lose Ramsey for free when his deal expires next summer.

According to the Evening Standard, Ramsey’s stand-off with Arsenal has alerted Serie A champions Juventus and fellow Italian outfit AC Milan.
Outgoing Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis will join Milan next month and could take advantage of Ramsey’s contract situation at the Emirates, which he will be well aware of.
Forward Danny Welbeck, meanwhile, insists he is purely focused on his performances for Arsenal amid speculation he could earn a recall to the England squad.

‘It is for Gareth Southgate to decide who he picks,’ Welbeck said. ‘What I can do is just focus on me, that is the most important thing.’
Asked about not starting a Premier League game for Arsenal so far this season, Welbeck added: ‘You have got to wait for your opportunity.
‘A few of the lads had a bit more of a pre-season than me which made it a bit difficult, I came back a bit later than the others.
‘I got 90 minutes last week, 90 minutes today and I’m just going to build on it from there and keep improving.’
Arsenal, currently sixth in the Premier league, face Watford on Saturday.

Manchester United player furious with Jose Mourinho after public shaming of Phil Jones

Jose Mourinho’s side crashed out of the Carabao Cup in midweek (Picture: Getty) Senior Manchester United players were stunned by Jose Mourinho’s public shaming of Phil Jones following Tuesday’s shock Carabao Cup defeat against Derby.
United were held to a 2-2 draw at Old Trafford by Frank Lampard’s promotion hopefuls, rescuing a draw courtesy of a late Marouane Fellaini equaliser.
The match was settled by a penalty shootout, Jones missing the decisive kick after the previous 15 takers had all been successful from 12 yards.
Afterwards, Mourinho said: ‘I never blame a player missing a penalty because we know clearly, because we train and because we knew if it went in the direction of Jones and Eric Bailly, we would be in trouble then.’
Jose Mourinho ‘knew’ Phil Jones would miss his decisive penalty (Picture: Getty) The Daily Telegraph cites two sources close to Manchester United players who cannot understand what their manager has to gain by shaming his troops in such a public fashion and also noted the irony in Mourinho’ desire for greater commitment from players he continues to undermine.
Mourinho’s often brutal treatment of Luke Shaw appears, finally, to be bearing fruit with the long-suffering left-back producing the best and most consistent form of his United career, but several of his colleagues are unimpressed with their manager’s increasingly divisive demeanour.

United’s players are still reeling from the decision to strip Paul Pogba of the vice-captaincy, many of whom support the Frenchman and his intention to quit the club, regardless of Mourinho’s future.
Pogba and Mourinho were involved in a frosty exchange at the club’s Carrington training ground on Wednesday, triggered by the World Cup winner’s Instagram video which went out later than intended as a result of Old Trafford’s notoriously inconsistent WiFi signal.

Ryan Giggs tells Jose Mourinho how to get the best out of struggling Manchester United star Alexis Sanchez

Alexis Sanchez is yet to impose himself at Manchester United (Picture: Getty) Ryan Giggs has backed Alexis Sanchez to recover from his slump but says Jose Mourinho must find the right position to play the Manchester United star.
Much was expected of Sanchez after he completed a high-profile move to Old Trafford last January from Arsenal.
He showed glimpses of his potential during the last six months of the 2017-18 campaign, helping United progress to the final of the FA Cup.

The overwhelming feeling was that Sanchez would raise his game this season, however, after being able to fully recover during a quiet summer.
But he is yet to find the target in five appearances and Ian Wright has claimed he could be sold by Manchester United unless his contributions improve.
Giggs insists Sanchez will soon come good for the Red Devils but says it is important that he is played in the correct position by manager Mourinho.
‘I’m a big fan of Sanchez, I was a big fan of his at Arsenal and sometimes it just takes players a bit longer to settle in,’ the Manchester United legend told Sky Sports.
The Chilean joined United from Arsenal last January (Picture: Getty) ‘Even though he’s a top player he just looks like he’s a bit short of confidence, but I’m sure he’ll come good as he’s a top goalscorer and a good player as well.
‘He can play anywhere across the front, he played on the right for Barcelona and up front in his better days for Arsenal.
‘I’ve seen him just off the left the most for United so it just depends who he’s playing with and who they’re playing against.
‘He can also play that No 10 role but I think the best performances I’ve seen from him at United are just coming off the left, but it’s just not quite happening for him at the moment.’
Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs (Picture: Getty) This week, former Arsenal and England striker Wright questioned Sanchez’s place in United’s first-team and suggested he could be offloaded in January.
‘He does not warrant a place in the team when you have Martial and Marcus Rashford waiting to play,’ said Wright.
‘You look at him at United: he’s not shackled, he’s got freedom. His form will have to kick in to justify a place.

‘If I was a businessman, I’d see how it goes for the rest of the season then look to offload. It’s because of the wages he’s on.
‘For me, right now, if United had paid money for him they’d be thinking: ‘How are we going to get that back?’

VfB Stuttgart reject transfer bid for Benjamin Pavard amid Manchester United and Arsenal interest

Stuttgart do not want to lose Pavard in January (Picture: Getty) Real Madrid have reportedly seen a bid for Benjamin Pavard rejected by VfB Stuttgart.
Manchester United and Arsenal have been linked with a move for Pavard, but Real are keen to bring the full-back to Madrid in January.
Pavard would attract a hefty transfer fee having won the World Cup with France as their No.1 right-back during the summer.
(Picture: Getty) And Sport Bild claim Real have made their move for Pavard ahead of January, but Stuttgart have turned down the offer.
Stuttgart do not want to do business in January, seeing little sense in selling a key player mid-way through the season.
Real are in touch with Stuttgart and are now a step ahead of Pavard’s other suitors.

Pavard was a surprise inclusion and starter in the French team in Russia, but played every minute of their World Cup triumph.
The 22-year-old’s performances in Russia alerted the attentions of Arsenal and United, who are both on the hunt for young full-backs.
